우리는 다양한 범주 안에서 관계를 맺으며 살고 있다. 그 관계 속에서 다양성은 위로가 되기도 하지만 때로는 상처가 된다. 그 상처는 단절을 만들어 내고 결국 소통의 부재와 외로움을 느끼게 한다. 외로움은 즉 내 안의 빈 공간이다. 무엇인가를 채우기 위한 수단이 곧 소통이다. 소통을 통해 자신의 정체성을 회복할 수 있다. 그런 우리에게 진정한 소통이 무엇인지, 소통의 의미를 생각해 보고 싶다. ● 진정한 소통이란 어쩌면 타인과의 소통보다 내면에 있는 나 자신과의 소통이 아닐까. 그런 소통의 매개체로 나는 공간을 그린다. 그냥 텅 빈 공간이다. 공간을 채우지 않고 비우는 그 자체를 소통이라고 말하고 싶다. 그것을 다른 말로 소비라고 재해석 하려 한다. 소비란 사전적 의미로 써서 없애는 일이다. 내안의 어떤 욕망과 상처 따위를 없애야 비로소 소통할 수 있는 공간이 생기는 것이다.

공간은 나의 내면이자 현대 사회를 살아가고 있는 우리 내면의 모습일지도 모른다. 소비의 순간에서 행해지는 "바라보기" 즉 나의 내면과 대면하는 시간을 나는 공간으로 표현하고자 한다. 빠르게 변화하는 바쁨의 시간 속에서 내면과 바라볼 수 있는 곳, 그래서 내가 그리는 공간은 정지된 모습이다. 정지된 공간에서야 만이 나의 내면과 소통하기 위한 소비와 바라보기를 할 수 있다고 생각하기 때문이다. ● 내가 그리는 공간은 하나의 건축물이 아닌 인간의 내면이다. 즉 마음의 공간인 것이다. 인간의 내면에 자리 잡고 있는 외로움과 고독감을 공간을 통해 치유하고자 빈 공간을 그린다. 공간을 통해 자신과 소통하며 상처받은 감정들이 소비를 통해 온전한 바라보기 되기를 바란 다. 이것이 나의 공간에 대한 해석이다. ■ 이정민

We form relationships in many different categories. In those relationships, variety could be a consolation but, it also hurts us at times. The wound then creates isolation and brings us a lack of communication and loneliness. Loneliness, in other words, is an empty space in oneself. Communication is a mean to fill the void. one can recover one's identity through communications. I want to think about that a true communication is to us- the meaning of communication. ● Maybe, a true communication is to communicate with my inner self rather than to communicate with others, and I paint spaces as a medium of those communications. They are just an empty space. I would like to point out that an act of voiding, and not filling, a space is a communication on its own. I intend to translate this concept to another word: consumption. Dictionary meaning of consumption is to use up. A space to communicate only appears when one has consumed all desires and wounds in one self. ● The space might be the inner scenary of myself and of us all living in modern society. I wanted to paint the "watching" during the moment of consumption-the time to face our inner selves, as a space, where we can look at our inner selves during busy times that changes rapidly. Therefore, the space I paint are paused. I believe that we can act out the consumption and watching to communicate with out inner selves only in a paused space. ● The space I pain are not a constructed building but inner parts of human being- an inner space. I paint empty spaces in order to cure loneliness inside of us through space. I wish to communicate with myself through the space, and look at my wounded emotions completely through consumption. This is my interpretation on my space.
