시각과 공간의 미를 캡쳐한다는 것은 분명 대부분의 예술가에게는 어렵고 복잡한 일 일것이다. 하지만 내가 보고, 알고 있는 한국인 예술가, 김옥희에게는 그렇게 어려운 일이 아니다. 그녀의 이번『시각과 공간의 미』에 대한 작품들은 유체 라인과 강한 브러시 스트로크의 조합으로 힘과 감성을 모두 보여주고 있다. 게다가 검은색과 흰색 그리고 다양한 색상의 조합으로 유동성, 움직임, 에너지와 침착한 인상을 모두 남겨주고 있다. 또한 그녀의 작품속에서 그녀는 몸짓, 호흡, 본능, 다양한 시각과 그녀의 작품속에 존재하는 모든 요소들로 무게와 무중력 상태의 느낌을 나타냈다. 이것들은 동시에 깊은 감정 표현을 나타내고 있으며, 모양과 색상의 미묘한 탐사를 통해서 시각과 공간의 미를 구체화 시키고있다. ● 김옥희의 작품은 여러개의 레이어를 통해서 우리로 하여금 시간과 공간의 느낌을 받게하고있다. 한데로 얽히고 있기도 하면 서로 조화를 이루는 그녀의 브러시 스트로크를 통해 그녀는 아름다운 감성과 이야기를 만들어내고 있다. 그녀의 작품들은 동양 회화에서 자주 볼 수 있는 절묘하고 강한 유체 스트로크로 채워지는 기술들을 많이 포함하고 있지만, 여러가지 구성을 통해 현대적인 느낌도 물씬 표현하고 있다. 게다가 그녀의 작품들은 모두 그녀의 아름다운 경험들과 기억을 담아내는 듯한 느낌을 주고 있다. ● 마지막으로, 그녀의 작품들을 보고 있으면 시작과 끝의 나타내고 있는 것 같다. 이번 작품에서 그녀는 여러가지 이미지들을 혼합시켜보고 서로 연결시키면서 그녀의 여러가지 아이디어를 표현하였는데, 보는 사람으로 하여금 움직이고 있다고 느끼게 하는 감정을 불어 일으키고 있다. ■ Nedia El Khouri

Attempting to capture the aesthetic of time and space is a complex task that would intimidate most artists; not so for Korean artist Ok Hee Kim. In her collection The beauty of time and space, her combination of fluid lines and strong brush strokes evoke both strength and sensitivity, as she captures beauty in her subject. The combination of rich colors, with black and white, leaves an impression of fluidity, movement, energy and calm. A sense of weight and weightlessness is created by working with gesture, breath, instinct and time, all of which are present in her work. This is achieved through deep emotional ｅxpression, and made concrete through the subtle exploration of shape and color. The multiples layers found in Ok Hee Kim's work capture a sense of space over time. The sensuality of brush strokes intertwine and relate to one another, creating beautiful compositions, emotions, stories if you will. Her images are guided by experiences, memories, and beauty, while the technique is informed and composed by exquisite, strong, yet fluid strokes, which are found often in the atmosphere of oriental painting, but articulated in this body of work with modern impression. This collection represents a continuum with no beginning or end. It is a blending of one image to the other; connected, and flowing, expressing an idea, evoking an emotion that ultimately draws in and guides the viewer into a moving, personal interaction with each piece and a relation to the collection as a whole. ■ Nedia El Khouri
