휴화산의 자유를 즐기다 ● 김정선은 생활 속에서 체득한 경험과 자신이 가장 잘 알고 있는 사유의 세계를 작품으로 승화시키는 화가이다. 그가 작품의 명제(名題)로서 말하는 메시지들도 그러한 맥락에 근거하여 읽을 수 있으며, 일상 속에서 가슴으로 느낀 파문과 스쳐지나간 기억들, 층층이 쌓인 시간들을 시각언어로 구성해내고 있음도 발견할 수 있다.

사실 그는 화가 이전에 생활인으로서도 매우 긍정적인 삶의 자세를 갖추고 있으며, 규범적이면서도 밝은 언어로 주위를 즐겁게 해주는 재능이 있는 사람이다. 또한 성실한 아내이자 사랑하는 두 자녀의 엄마로서 세상을 아름답게 바라보는, 시선이 따뜻한 사람이기에 작품 세계 또한 정돈된 상상력으로 평온한 공간을 펼쳐 보일 것이라는 선입견을 갖게 한다. 그러나 그의 작품 속에는 정제(精製)된 생활의 반복에서 벗어나려는 감성적 일탈의 꿈이 도사리고 있음은 참으로 의외의 현상이라 할 수 있다. 안정된 일상의 충실함에 자족(自足)하면서도 끝없이 분출하는 작가적 욕구 발산이자 현실과의 충돌! 그것은 평면화 된 생활의 궤도에 적응하며 창작의 갈증을 해소해 가는 예술가의 양면성이라고 할 수 있으며, 김정선 작가 또한 그런 체계 속에서 작품을 잉태하고 때때로 세상에 내 보임으로써 원초적 작가 본능을 해소하고 있음을 알 수 있다.

빈센트 반 고호, 이중섭, 잭슨 폴록처럼 기인(奇人)의 행적을 남기고 천재성을 활화산처럼 터트리다 간 화가만이 진정한 예술가라고 할 수 없는 일이며, 예술가는 슬픔, 고독, 현실적 결핍 등을 자양분으로 해야만 한다는 고착된 사고(思考)에 강박할 필요도 없지 않은가? 따라서 창조성이 새로운 시대정신의 현상이라는 사실에 동의한다면, 화가 한 사람 한 사람의 창조적 결과물은 그의 심연에 잠재된 자기실현 욕구의 파생물이자 새로운 조형성의 제안이기도 하다. 김정선의 작품 또한 그처럼 내면에 휴화산처럼 잠재된 창작 욕구를 즐기듯 향유하다가 참을 수 없는 어느 시점에서 마그마가 용출하듯 화폭에 옮겨낸 것이며, 그가 영원히 추구하는 감성의 조형적 표출이자 모천(母川)으로 돌아가려는 연어처럼 태생적으로 갈구하는 창작의 회귀본능(回歸本能)이기도 하다. 우리는 이번에 화가 김정선의 전시회에서 꿈과 현실을 공존시키는 지혜를 발견할 수 있을 것이며, 한 작가의 순수하고 청량한 예술 세계를 함께 유영(遊泳)하며 창작의 즐거움을 공유하는 의미 있는 시간이 될 것으로 믿는다. ■ 임헌혁

Enjoying Freedom on a Dormant Volcano ● Jung-Sun Kim sublimates her personal experiences in life and the private world of hers in her art. The character of her work reflects such an attitude, as her work reconstructs the ripples of her heart, flashbacks from the past, and layers of time all in a visual language. ● Before being an artist, Jung-Sun Kim is the loving wife and mother of two, a role model for others who brightensup the room with her positivity. She perceives the world with a warm heart, and I was prejudiced to believe that her work will demonstrate peace withan organized imagination. However, to see a longing for an emotional escape from the stagnant routine of life in her work was rather unexpected. A clash between relief from the stability of reality and a never-ending artistic desire yearning for release! Such can be seen as the two sides of any artist who satisfies his or her thirst for creation while adapting to the flatness of ordinary days. Jung-Sun Kim also relieves her artistic instinct in such a world by giving birth to her art from time to time. ● There is no reason to label only those eccentric artists like Vincent Van Gogh, Joong-Sub Lee, or Jackson Pollock who explode in their genius as genuine artists Nor is there a reason to limit the inspirational source of artwork to the typical – sorrow, solitude, or material inadequacy. Thus, if one agrees that creativeness is the new phenomenon of this age, the creative production of each artist today is derived from a subconscious desire for self-realization and a suggests a new formation. The work of Jung-Sun Kim is also the magmatic explosion of an intuitive artistic craving thathas been drifting inside her.
