I am ● 나를 인식 하는 것, 나를 의식 하는 것, 나를 아는 것 지금 나는 무엇으로 존재 하는가? 우리는 자신을 외부에, 세계 속에, 타인들 틈에 존재하고 있음을 발견 한다. ● 모든 것은 외부에 있다. 심지어 자신까지도.. ● 이렇게 외부에 속해 있는 우리의 의식은 사물과의 관계 속에서 일정한 대상을 향하여 존재한다. 그러나 대상과의 관계 속에서 우리의 의식은 종종 타인을 향한 방향성에서 그치지 않고 자신의 생각을 강요함으로써 충돌하게 되고 결국 방향성을 잃게 된다. ● 사랑이란 이름으로, 또는 옳다는 이유로 모두를 자신의 의식에 동화시키려는 것이다. " 갑옷 시리즈" 는 이러한 세상으로부터 자신을 보호함으로서 독립적 자아를 꿈꾸는 인간의 본능을 표현한 작품이다. 주변의 오브제를 스텐 와이어로 가득히 wrapping 함으로써 자신을 향한 보호 본능을 갑옷으로 나타냈다. 결국 갑옷을 입은 '나'는 관계 속에 만들어진 경험적이며 주관적인 또 하나의 우리의 형상인 것이다. 우리는 이렇게 'I am' 즉 선험적 자아를 잊은 채 관계를 통해, 외부를 인식함으로 인해 만들어진 또 다른 ego의 '나' 들로 살아간다.

그렇다면 본성의 '나'를 깨닫는다는 것은 무얼까? 소크라테스의 너 자신을 아는 것의 '너'는 'I am' 상태의 나를 의미하는 것은 아닐까? 이제는 세상 속에 나, 관계 지어진 나, 비교속의 나, 즉 경험적 자아가 아닌 자유로우며 독립적인 나를 인식해 본다. ● 정보와 경쟁의 홍수시대의 우리는 타인과의 비교우위에 서기 위해 달린다. 이제는 타인과의 경쟁이 아닌 자신의 고유 가치 안에서 자기와의 경쟁을 시작해야 할 때가 아닐까? 나를 알고 세상속의 내가 설 자리를 찾아가는, 그곳에서 진정한 나의 가치를 찾아가는 우리를 바라본다. 이번 " 평면 작업" 은 나를 의식하고 나의 절대적 가치를 향한 과정을 평면위에 옷을 씌워 그 위에 작은 핀으로 가치를 찾아 형상화 해나가는 과정이다. 또한 타인의 고유 가치와 능력을 수용하며 받아들이는 과정을 의미 있는 사물의 형태를 핀으로 극대화시킴으로써 인내와 노력의 흔적을 나타내고자 했다. ■ 김은정

I am ● As what am I existing? We often discover us being among the world, strangers, or even outside of ourselves. ● Everything can be found from outside of you. Even yourself. ● Our consciousness exists pointing toward consistent subject, within specific relationships with them. ● Inside these relationships, our consciousness not only points toward others or matters, but often forces our own thoughts to them and collide, and loses direction. ● By the name of love, by the reason that it feels right, people's mind tends to assimilate everyone else's thoughts with theirs. ● My " Armor series" represents human being's instinct to protect themselves from tendency of others like this. By fully wrapping random, ordinary objet with stainless steel wire, I have expressed the protective instinct of mankind. After all, myself inside the armor shows the empirical, subjective shape of human consciousness formed by relationship. ● We, the human being lives through our life not by transcendental self, a.k.a " I am" . However, by another acquired ego that has been obtained from relationship and realization of exterior factors. ● Then, what is it like to be perceiving the natural 'ME'? Could 'Yourself' from the famous ancient quote " Know Yourself" mean the same me as " I am" ? Now, it is time to begin realizing genuine, independent me that is free from the world, relationship or comparison. ● As our era is flooding with information and competition, we run to gain success, which is relative to our surrounding others. Instead of competing with others like this, isn't it the time that we should start challenging ourselves for our own values? ● During the work on my relievo, I tried to give shape to the procedure of forming my absolute value and establishing the " natural me" , by covering 2-demensional plane with clothes and sticking pins on it. Also, through maximizing the form of meaningful objet of mine, I tended to convey the sequence of embracing others' absolute values and abilities. ■ Kim eun jung
