더 나은 미래, 혹은 원하고자 하는 삶의 지향을 위해 노동을 하며 소득을 생성하는 것은 당연한 사회적 활동이다. 일정 시간과 기간, 혹은 평생에 걸쳐 우리는 노동을 하고 있다. 그것의 숭고함에 대해 이야기도 하지만 'Working poor'라는 말처럼 반대로 노동의 가치는 떨어지고 있다. 고용의 불안, 치솟는 물가로 인해 쉴 틈 없이 일을 해도 극빈층으로 추락할 수 있는 불안함을 가지고 있는 것이다.

이번 전시는 끊임없이 손과 몸을 움직이며 육체노동을 하는 인물들을 주된 소재로 삼았다. 자본주의가 만연한 상황에서 생겨난 '자재화된 인간'의 모습을 보며 느낀 체념의 상태와 목적을 잃은 노동의 모습은 지금 청년들의 상황과 맞닿아 있는 부분이다. 이 점은 이전 작업들과 연결된 지점으로 현재의 나와 주변의 경험을 통해 내일을 꿈꿀 수 없는 막연한 현재를 사는 이들에 대한 공감의 정서가 시작이라고 할 수 있다. 그들은 내밀한 불안을 느끼며 자신들의 성실과 노력을 애써 쌓아 올리는 방법을 취하며 삶을 살고 있었다. 그 안에서 그래도 어떠한 것은 내가 좀 낫고 덜 힘들고, 혹은 월급을 더 버는 것으로 자기 위안을 하고 반대의 경우는 자기 비하로 귀결되기도 한다. 그것은 마치 같은 회사에 다니지만 대졸자이기에, 혹은 정규직이기에 분리되는 그룹핑에서 생기는 미묘하고 복합적인 감정들을 심적으로 지니며 서로에게 대립각을 세워 서로를 분리해 나간다. 사회 구성원으로써의 동등한 입장이 아닌 1등 시민과 2등 시민으로 나눠지는 현상에서 개인의 존엄에 대해 나 혹은 우리는 어떻게 의식하고 있는지를 반문하며 작업을 진행했다.

움직이는 다수와 그들을 움직이게 하는 보이지 않는 소수가 만들어 내는 현실에서 발생한 아이러니한 사건들이나 상황들을 연상하여 풀어낸 그림이 보편적인 삶의 경험들을 끌어내 각자의 경험을 사유해 볼 수 있는 결과물을 만듦으로써 자신과 타자, 혹은 사회에 대한 시각을 나누는 바람이 있다. ■ 조민아

Generating incomes through labor for better future or desired life is such a natural social activity. We are working for a certain period of time or throughout the whole life. Even though talking about its sublimity, just like the word 'working poor', the value of labor is dropping. Even when continuously working with no breaks because of unstable employment and rising prices, there is the insecurity to fall to the destitute poor. ● This exhibition takes people doing physical labor by continuously moving their hands and bodies as its main material. The condition of resignation and labor with no purpose felt by viewing the 'materialized humans' when capitalism is rampant, accord with the current status of youths. As a point connecting with the previous works, through experiences from me and surroundings, it might be originated from a sentiment of empathy with people who cannot dream of tomorrow. Feeling private anxiety, they were living by building up their sincerity and efforts. They comfort themselves for better or less work, or more salary. In the opposite case, it could be led to self-degradation. It is just like separating from each other by having subtle and complex feelings generated from grouping divided into university graduates or full-time positions even in the same company. Works were created by asking about our consciousness of individual's dignity when members of society are divided into the first-class citizens and the second-class citizens instead of the equal position. ● By creating outcomes to think about each one's experiences when experiences of universal life are drawn by paintings showing the association of ironical events or situations occurring in the reality created by moving majority and invisible minority that makes them move, hopefully, perspectives on myself, others, or society could be shared. ■ CHOMINAH
