기억의 편린(片鱗)...... 시공간을 넘나든다. 손에 잡힐것 같지만 잡히지 않고, 다른 기억이 저장되어 한편씩 꺼낼 수 있는 시간을 가져다 준다. 어릴 적 고향을 떠나오면서 가족과 이별하게 되었고, 그런 일들로 인해 소심한 아이로 유년과 청소년기를 거치게 되었다. 내 마음속 밑바닥에 숨겨져 있던 것은 사람을 포근이 감싸 안아주는 "천" 어머니와 자식을 이어주는 탯줄 같은 "끈" 이였다. 자연에서 느끼는 그리움...이음과 끊음, 비움과 채움을 '천과 실'로 표현했다. 실을 캔버스에 한가닥 한가닥 붙일 때마다 마치 어머니의 사랑을 채워 주는 듯한 느낌의 카타르시스를 경험하게 되었는데, 마음이 평온해지고 정화되는 느낌 이었다. 흰색은 나에게 있어 "추억" 이다. 白色의 기억은 이제 '나'의 기억만이 아니라 모든 이들의 기억을 순수한 상태로 받아들일 수 있는 무한한 가능성을 일컫는 의미가 되었다. 백색의 추억을 간직하며....... Piece of Memory... Traverses time and space. Seems as if it could be grasped but it can't; it brings time where other memory is stored and could be removed one by one. I left my hometown and parted with my family when I was young, and because of this, I spent my youth and teenage years as a timid child. What was hidden deep beneath my heart were "fabric" that snugly held people and "thread" like the umbilical cord that connected mother and child. I used "fabric and thread" to describe the nostalgia felt in nature… that connection and disconnection, emptying and filling. Every time I attached a piece of string onto the canvas, I felt cathartic as if I was filling it up with mother's love, which felt calming and healing. White to me means "reminiscence". Memory of white has now become something of an infinite possibility that can accept not only my own memory but of everyone as its pure state. Cherishing white memory... (June 2018) ■ KACHUNHWA
