학고재는 3월 15일(수)부터 4월 29일(토)까지 박종규(b. 1966, 대구) 개인전 『Phantom of Time and Time of Phantom(시대의 유령과 유령의 시대)』을 연다. 이번 전시는 학고재에서 개최하는 작가의 첫 개인전으로, 회화 및 영상, 설치 작품 50여 점으로 구성되어 그의 예술 세계를 폭넓게 조명한다. 박종규는 디지털 세계를 작동케 하는 시그널, 그리고 소음이나 잡음으로 분류되어 소통을 방해하는 잉여물로 여겨지는 노이즈에서 세상의 의미를 유추한다. 규칙과 무규칙, 선과 악, 혼돈과 질서 등 이분법적인 사고방식에 의문을 제기하는 그의 예술 세계에서 노이즈는 버려지고 쓸모없는 것이 아닌, 지속적으로 변화하며 '잔존'하는 실체로 등장한다. 이번 전시에서는 영상 작업에서 발췌한 장면을 회화로 재탄생시키거나 기존의 회화를 입체적인 형태로 발전시킨 신작뿐만 아니라, 청각적 시그널을 시각화하고 이를 인식하는 주체로서의 개인을 대면하게 하는 관객 참여형 작품 또한 새롭게 선보인다. 작가는 우리가 살고 있는 시대의 징후를 예술로 체현(embody)하고, 새로운 예술 형식을 통해 우리가 사는 시간의 의미를 사유하게 한다.

박종규는 1966년 대구에서 태어났다. 계명대학교에서 서양화과를 졸업한 후 파리 국립 미술학교에서 학사와 연구과정을 밟았다. 대구미술관(2019), 영은미술관(2018), 홍콩 벤브라운파인아츠(2017) 등에서 개인전을 가졌으며, 포항시립미술관(2018), 광주시립미술관(2010), 러시아 니즈니노브고로드 국립현대미술센터(2016), 모스크바 트라이엄프 갤러리(2016), 후쿠오카시 미술관(2003) 등 국내외 유수 기관에서 개최한 단체전에 참여한 바 있다. 서울시립미술관(서울), 광주시립미술관(광주), 대구미술관(대구) 등 국내 주요 기관에서 작품을 소장하고 있다. ■ 학고재

Hakgojae Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of a solo exhibition by J. PARK, titled Phantom of Time and Time of Phantom, from March 15th (Wed) to April 29th (Sat). This exhibition is the artist's first solo exhibition held at Hakgojae Gallery and consists of about 50 paintings, videos, and installation that highlight the wide range of his artistic practice. PARK infers the meaning of the world from signals that make the digital world work and from the sounds that are classified as noise or considered a surplus product that hinders communication. In his art world, which questions dichotomous mindsets, such as rules and no rules, good and evil, and chaos and order, noise does not appear as abandoned or useless but as a constantly changing and 'surviving' entity. In this exhibition, the artist introduces a new series of paintings inspired by his existing video works or develops them into a geometric form. In addition, a new audience-participating work that visualizes auditory signals allows visitors to face themselves as the subject of perception. In these works, the artist embodies the signs of the times we live in and makes us consider the meaning of these times through his new forms of art. ● J. PARK was born in 1966 in Daegu, Korea. After graduating from the Keimyung University with a degree in painting, he pursued a DNSAP and a Poste Diplome, at École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Artsin Paris. He had his solo exhibitions at Daegu Art Museum in Daegu, Korea (2019), Youngeun Museum of Contemporary Art in Gwangju, Gyeonggi -do, Korea (2018), and Ben Brown Fine Arts (2017) in Hong Kong and participated in group exhibitions held by leading domestic and foreign institutions, such as Pohang Museum of Steel Art in Pohang, Korea (2018), Gwangju Museum of Art in Gwangju, Korea (2010), National Centre for Contemporary Arts in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia (2016), Triumph Gallery in Moscow, Russia (2016), and Fukuoka Museum of Modern Art in Fukuoka, Japan (2003). His works are in collections of major Korean institutions such as Seoul Museum of Art (Seoul), Gwangju Museum of Art (Gwangju), and Daegu Art Museum (Daegu). ■
